The ‘Adopt a Canova’ project
2022 is the bicentenary of the death of Antonio Canova, one of the most famous Italian artists of all time, born in Possagno, a few kilometres from Karizia, where the Gypsotheca Museum is located. The Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa celebrated this exceptional sculptor with a major exhibition entitled “Io, Canova. European Genius”, which can be visited until the end of February. On the occasion of the exhibition, the town council launched a public appeal for donations to support the “adoption” of a sculpture, a painting or an entire room. Karizia, always attentive to the cultural needs of the region, immediately decided to take part in this original initiative. A draw took place to match each supporter with a work by Canova and Karizia was awarded The Head of Helena, sculpted by the artist in 1814. A series of agreements were also made with the museum to allow employees to visit the exhibition.
